Leader of the Democratic Alignment and President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement- PASOK
Fofi Gennimata is the leader of the Democratic Alignment and President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement-PASOK. She graduated from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at EKPA. When at University of Athens, she was a member of the Socialist Student Union.
Active in Greece Women’s Union since 1986, she gave strong and constant fights for women’s equality, equal pay, child care and family healthcare as well as the involvement of young women in governmental institutions. In 1996, she became President of «George Genimmatas» foundation, which collected, managed and preserved the archives of her father, George Gennimatas.
Elected as PASOK’s Member of Parliament in 2000, she has served as a Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare and Alternate Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs. From 2001 to 2004, she served as a member of PASOK’s Central Committee, while from 2003 to 2009 she was member of the Executive Bureau and the Political Council of PASOK. She was twice elected as the President of the Hyper -Prefecture of Athens and Piraeus, in 2002 and 2006 where she achieved that local government would adequately fulfill its significant role.
Fofi Gennimata was elected by party members as the 5th PASOK President in 2015. From that day she is making continuous efforts to unite all centre-left parties and movements within a political alliance: the Democratic Alignment.
